Welcome, humans.
Well, Sam did it: OpenAI successfully completed its new funding round, and raised $6.6B in the ālargest VC deal of all time.ā The new valuation? $157B. Thatās $7B more than everybody reported, and $7B more than we have! So, like, congrats, we guess?!
Itās not all rainbows and buckets of money, though. All this funding comes with a two year countdown to convert into a corporationā¦ or else Sam A can kiss that (still TBD) equity goodbye!
OpenAI also apparently asked its investors to commit to NOT investing in rivals like xAI. Some on X have pointed out this might not be a wise move:
